Structural Subconsultant for Architecture Firms

We work as your structural engineer on new construction and existing building rehab. Direct Professional Engineer access. No layers between you and the engineer making the decisions.

We work with architecture firms that don't have in-house structural departments. If you're designing a new building or rehabbing an existing one, and you need a structural engineer who communicates clearly, turns work around on a predictable schedule, and doesn't over-engineer — that's what we're built for.

Capstone Engineering, PLLC is licensed in New York State. We serve the Buffalo and Rochester metro  areas and the broader Western New York region. Project work has extended statewide.

Services for Architectural Projects

Existing Structure Assessment, Evaluation, Retrofitting

When a building has been modified, deteriorated, or is being repurposed, the structural questions multiply fast. What was built? How was it changed? What does it need to carry now? We start by identifying the root cause of any structural concern — not just what's visible, but why it happened. From that diagnosis, we scope exactly what needs to be repaired or retrofitted: nothing more, nothing less.

Structural Design for New Construction

New construction structural design starts with what the building needs to resist: snow, wind, and seismic demands set by the NYS Building Code and ASCE 7. We design the structural skeleton — beams, columns, foundations, and lateral systems — so your architectural vision is buildable, not just drawn. We work as your structural subconsultant from schematic design through construction documents, coordinated directly with your project team.

Structural Calculations and Stamped Drawings

Every structural decision we make is backed by engineering calculations. Those calculations are what allow us to put a PE stamp on the drawings. That stamp means a licensed New York State professional engineer has reviewed the design and stands behind it under NSPE and ASCE codes of ethics. We don't stamp work we didn't do. We don't issue drawings we can't defend.

BIM Coordination

We work in the latest Revit and Civil 3D — not as a workaround, but as our primary production environment. Structural models coordinate directly within your BIM workflow, clash detection is real, and structural and architectural drawings can stay in sync through construction documents. If your project is BIM-managed, we fit into that process without translation. If it isn't, we deliver stamped drawings in whatever format your contractor and code official need. Either way, you're not waiting for us to catch up to how your firm works.
